Dr. France Donnay
Frontline Management of Pregnancy and Childbirth Complications: What Do We Know about Program Effectiveness?

Dr. Donnay is the Senior Program Officer for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She practiced obstetrics and gynecology in public and private hospitals, as well as in family planning clinics in Brussels, for 15 years. Because of her interest in maternal health in developing countries, she worked in organizations like Doctors without Borders and UNICEF, and as a consultant to the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). She was in charge of reproductive health technical support from 1999 to 2005 at UNFPA, before leading the UNFPA office in Pakistan from 2005 to 2008.

Dr. Carlton Evans has lived and worked in Peru for the last 10 years and runs the research group IFHAD: Innovation for Health and Development, funded by the Wellcome Trust. A professor at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima and a consultant to the WHO, Dr. Evans has been involved in the development of novel tuberculosis (TB) diagnostic techniques, which is the focus of the first seminar. After over two decades of work in this field, he recognized that combating TB required an interdisciplinary approach to prevent the disease; as such, his approach is to try to prevent new cases of TB by intervening with those most at risk: family members of people being treated for TB, the topic of his second seminar. Dr. Evans‘€™ work and perspective are multidisciplinary, covering issues that faculty and students from a variety of disciplines and studies will find relevant and interesting.
