Walking to Guantánamo is the chronicle of a journey through the remotest corners of Cuba and its culture. In the year 2000, Richard Fleming, journalist, photographer and self-described ‘chronic relaxationist,’ spent four months hiking, biking, and thumbing his way across the island, absorbing the people’s beliefs and aspirations. The Miami Herald described the resulting book as “A fascinating, wry, vividly detailed and elegantly written account of a trip that no one else is likely to take.”

Fleming’s photographs from the journey are on display at the Antenna Gallery, 3161 Burgundy, as part of ¡Si, Cuba!, until February 7th.

Antenna is a project of the non-profit Press Street, which is an arts and literary organization with a mind toward community involvement. We host other events and are looking for interns and/or volunteers.
