Dr. David Smilde, the Charles A. and Leo M. Favrot Professor of Human Relations at Tulane University, recently spoke with the NPR and commented on the Venezuelan military support for Nicolás Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaidó. Smilde remarks how an anti-imperialist ideology drives the Venezuelan military and pressure from the United States for the armed forces to withdrawal of support from Mr. Maduro is perhaps unproductive.
