Greenleaf Conference Room
100A Jones Hall

The Center for Inter-American Policy and Research is hosting a seminar with Dr. Ernesto Calvo, Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland-College Park. This is the first in a series of talks on “Latin America at the Crossroads” featuring discussions of the future of Latin America.

The upset victory of Mauricio Macri against the Peronist candidate for president in 2015 has led many to question if this is the start of a new era of politics in Argentina and its international relations. What are the expectations for the legislative elections scheduled for 2017? Dr. Calvo‘€™s work focuses on asymmetries in representation, or the mechanisms by which electoral rules provide unequal voting power to different subgroups of voters, especially in Argentina. His research on political representation, elections, and legislatures has received awards from the Representation, Comparative Politics and the Political Economy sections of the American Political Science Association and has been published in journals in the US, Europe and Latin America.

Event is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required. For more information and to reserve your seat, please contact Sefira Fialkoff at or 504.862.3141.
