The Center Austria, Latin American Studies, and International Studies programs at the University of New Orleans (UNO) are sponsoring a talk by Joaquín Roy, the Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration at the University of Miami. The talk, entitled “Catalan Independence and Other Separatist Movements” will be held on the UNO campus. Roy’s research focuses on Latin America, particularly Cuba, and Spain and he will discuss his recent research on independence movements.

Joaquín Roy (Lic. Law, University of Barcelona, Ph.D, Georgetown University), is Jean Monnet Professor and Director of University of Miami European Union Center of Excellence. He has published over 200 academic articles and reviews, and he is the author or editor of 39 books. On Catalan subjects, his main works are: Josep Conangla i Fontanilles, La Constitució de l’Havana i altres escrits. Barcelona: Edicions de La Magrana/ Diputació de Barcelona, 1986; Catalunya a Cuba. Barcelona: Editorial Barcino/ Fundació Jaume I, 1988. Josep Conangla y Fontanilles. Memorias de mi juventud en Cuba durante la guerra (1895-1898. Barcelona: Ediciones Península, 1998. He has also published over 1,400 columns and essays. He was awarded the Encomienda of the Order of Merit by King Juan Carlos of Spain.
