Dr. Andy Pearson, a contract archaeologist in the U.K. with an academic affiliation with the University of Bristol, in England, is presenting a talk entitled “Death in Paradise: Archaeology and the Atlantic Slave Trade on St. Helena Island” on Friday January 16th at 4:30 PM.

Dr. Pearson will discuss the research he and his team performed at St. Helena Island. He and his team recently excavated the site of an African slave cemetery on remote St. Helena Island, located in the southern Atlantic Ocean, a stopping point along the ‘€œMiddle Passage,‘€ by which thousands of enslaved Africans were transported to the Americas during the nineteenth century. Read more about the research in this news story.

The talk is free and open to the public. A light reception will follow.
