The Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies present an art exhibition of Mexican Artist Belinda Shinshillas. The exhibit will run from May 23 – June 27th at the Art Gallery of the Consulate of Mexico. An opening reception will be held on May 23rd at 6 PM.

Belinda Shinshillas was born in Mexico City but eventually moved to New Orleans, a move which greatly influenced her work. Her work combines contemporary and surrealistic tendencies, ideas and exploration. Her artwork conveys a sense of transformation to the spirituality through the use of vibrant colors and textures.

Belinda‘€™s devotion to art began at an early age. She studied Art History and the analysis of American and European Prominent artists. Shinshillas attended the National School of Visual Arts (Old Academy of San Carlos) in Mexico City, the oldest Art Academy in the American continent. There she had the opportunity to learn under the leadership of renowned Masters Gilberto Aceves and Luis Rene Alva. Studying art in Mexico provided the artist the opportunity and privilege of being a disciple of the well-known Mexican muralist Manuel Guillen-Campos Huici as well as Dr. Teresa del Conde at the Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico City.

The artwork of Belinda Shinshillas has been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibits throughout cities in Mexico and the United States for more than twenty years.
