The Ashé Cultural Arts Center presents The African Presence in Venezuela Since President Hugo Chavez. Featuring a screening of the film Tambores de Agua, an Afro-Venezuelan dance performance, a talk by the Venezuelan General Consul in Chicago, and Venezuelan food. The movie explores the African roots of Venezuela’s culture, with a special focus on music. It traces a tradition of Afro-Venezuelan women who would make music with the water when washing clothes in the river, and links this tradition to west Africa as an example of the strong cultural ties between the regions.

Admission is $10.00. This event is hosted by the Consulado General de la Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela en New Orleans.
