Lecture: "Tango. Una pasion ilustrada"

Gustavo Varela will give a presentation on reading tango music in sheet illustrations. Varela is a Professor, Researcher, and Academic Director of the Graduate Program in the Social and Political History of the Argentine Tango in the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) in Buenos Aires. He also teaches in the program in contemporary thought at the Fundación Universidad del Cine. He has taught and lectured on politics and popular culture at the Sorbonne, the Universidade Portucalense in Portugal and and the Freiburg Institute in Germany. His publications include Tango: una pasión ilustrada. Buenos Aires: Ediciones Lea, 2010; Nietzsche. Una introducción. Buenos Aires: Quadrata/Biblioteca Nacional, 2010, and a host of other publications on the relationship of tango to national identity.
