Policing and Immigration: El Protector Program

Many people think that the New Orleans police department has not responded well to the local Latino community. Perhaps surprisingly in areas where Latinos are heavily concentrated, such as New Orleans East, NOPD is working with Catholic Charities to respond to communication complaints and crime. Aaron Weitzner and Leah Jaques investigate how NOPD program El Protector has expanded safety in one Latino community but not been expanded to others. Produced in spring 2013 in conjunction with Politics of Immigration, taught by Professor Casey Love, and the Center for Public Service. 7:05.
